The Reason Why They Tattooed Live Pigs With Disney Characters Just Broke My Heart

Someone is really bringing home the bacon by selling pig skins covered in Disney tattoos for more than $70k a piece. Oh my poor, poor pigs.

One strange designer Wim Delvoye first began tattooing live pigs in the USA in 1997 before animal rights laws forced him to carry on his weird hobby in China.

Despite the fact that activists have slammed the bizarre activity, which pulls in a fortune for Delvoye, the artist insists that the pigs are looked after to the point of being spoiled.

There are three tattooists who work on the animals carefully at once, while they are completely anesthetized and even given a massage throughout the procedure.

The designs are primarily Disney, with Ariel the mermaid making several appearances on pig canvases, while other examples outside the animated franchise include a Louis Vuitton logo.

Sadly, once the pigs reach the end of their lives, their skins are sold for around $70k a piece and some are even molded into handbags.

Meanwhile, a PETA spokesperson told DailyMail that they condemned the activity, saying: “Pigs, cows and chickens are emotional, thinking animals who feel pain every bit as much as we do, and they value their lives.”

I must say that we must wholeheartedly agree that the last thing we will ever find ourselves doing is walking down the street carrying a tattooed pig skin handbag. It’s definitely not cool, people!

Wim Delvoye is a contemporary “neo-conceptual” artist who also designed intricate laser-cut steel towers, and carved delicately patterned rubber tires.
