A set of exceptionally rare identical triplets have been born in Franklin, Indianapolis.
Avery, Cassidy and Bentley Doss, the triplet girls were born on December 30, 2013 at Saint Vincent Women’s Hospital in Indianapolis without assisted fertility treatment.
The amazing girls were doing well and gaining weight according to Chad and Amanda Doss, the proud parents of the triplets.
The triplets were conceived without assistance after Chad had a vasectomy reversed. Amanda found out in June she was pregnant and based on the ultrasound in October that she was carrying triplets.
Avery was born weighing 3 pounds, 15 ounces. Bentley weighs at 4 pounds, 3 ounces. While Cassidy has a feeding tube in her umbilical cord weighing 3 pounds, 11 ounces.
Doctors believe that the egg split into three soon after conception because the triplets shared a placenta and chorionic sac but had their own amniotic sacs.
According to experts, the odds of producing identical triplets without fertility drugs range from one-in-one million to one-in-100 million. The rarity makes it difficult to accurately calculate the frequency of such births.
The couple said that they gave the babies names, based on their location in the womb.
"Seeing them for the first time was a very overwhelming experience, to feel them in my stomach for so long and just wonder what they will look like," Amanda Doss said. "To finally be able to see them was the best day ever."
