The 10 Rarest Birth Marks That Might Creep You Out

Birthmarks are usually discolored areas on the skin that appear at birth or shortly after birth. However, in some rare instances the world has been left mystified with the realization that there exist a few people, and even animals with completely rare and unusual birthmarks.

Most birthmarks are not cause for concern, but in most cases doctors don’t know why birthmarks appear, and that there is nothing that can be done to prevent them.

Here’s the compilation of 10 rarest birth marks you need to see to believe:

1. Part-Man, Part-Wolf

This Chinese man was nicknamed “Chimpanzee” because of his rare birthmark on his body. Zhang Hongming from Chongqing, China has a part-man and part-wolf appearance. If you will take a closer look at his body, you can see that he has a giant birthmark covered with hair on most of his form.

He appealed to doctors for help in getting rid of the thick black hair that covers part of his body. Such birthmarks are seen on no more than 3% of the world's population.

2. Young Boy with Turtle Shell Birth Mark

This young kid was branded “turtle boy” because of a huge shell-like growth on his body, is now finally free of the birthmark, thanks to a British surgeon. Little Didier Montalvo suffered from Congenital Melanocytic Nevus, which meant a mole grew so large that it almost covered his entire back.

The six-year-old boy from Colombia was teased and banned from going to school because of the frightening growth on his back, since locals in his village believes that such rare birthmarks are usually caused by evil spirits, and if the boy continued to mingle with other children in school, the evil spirits could also affect the other children.

Although his mum, Luz, did not have enough money for surgery, there was good news after all when one plastic surgeon from Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, Neil Bulstrode, heard about the boy’s plight that he and his team flew to Bogotá to operate on him.

3. Girl with Red Clown’s Nose Birth Mark

For two-year-old Connie Lloyd, there was nothing amusing about having a bright red “clown's nose.” Born with a benign tumor that grew to cover her nose, the poor kid suffered cruel taunts and negative name-calling.

After consulting with the doctors, she was advised this was one of the rarest birthmarks that could not be cured. However, the shy little girl has some reason to smile when the doctor’s defied all odds and did an operation on her leaving with “nose like mum’s.’’

4. Little Boy with a Large Birth Mark on His Forehead

This little boy with a large birthmark on his face was recently reported to have been treated by doctors by implanting horns on his forehead. George Ashman, 5, was born with one of the rarest birthmarks in which a bright red blemish mark grew on his forehead.

His mother, Karen, 33, feared that her son would endure a lifetime of bullying. So, when he was four he underwent a surgical procedure to stretch the normal skin on his forehead so the birthmark could be removed and covered with the new unblemished tissue.

Surgeons inserted two tissue expanders under his skin, and it gradually got inflated that they resembled two perfect devil horns. They later on removed the implants after four months and allowed the new skin to be stitched together, leaving the boy with a small scar.

During the four months when he had the horns, George was subjected to cruel taunts from passers-by.

5. Cow Hide Girl

Medics were baffled by a six-year old girl who was diagnosed with one of the rarest birthmarks on her skin, leaving her to look like a “cow hide girl.” Until just a few months ago, Li Xiaoyuan had just a small birthmark on her back, but the hide has kept growing and now spreads over her entire back and is starting to grow on her arms and face.

According to Dr. Lou Zhongquan, a surgeon at Zhaoqing City Dermatological Hospital, the girl may be suffering from a rare hereditary disease that has sent normal moles out of control.

6. Toddler’s Angel Wings Birth Mark

This toddler has a rare birthmark which makes it look like he has feathered “angel wings” across his back. Oliver Brown has a huge brown mole which covers the top of his back and shoulders. His mum Steph, 34, calls her son her ‘angel’ to boost his confidence.

However, doctors have warned that the unusual condition could be deadly if it turns cancerous, so the little boy has to be checked every three months. The two-year-old was born with Congenital Melanocytic Naevi (CMN) - or oversized moles or birthmarks.

7. Chinese Boy with a Large Birth Mark on His Face

An eight-year-old Chinese boy, An Qi, was born with a large birthmark almost covering the entire right side of his face. As he grows older, the mark has grown further and has also grown thick black hair.

Zheng Xiaoqin, president of the Min Yi Plastic Surgery Hospital in Changchun, said it's rare to have such a large hairy mole on the face and An's treatment will be in four stages. The hospital has agreed to waive its treatment fee.

8. ‘Holy Cow’ Born with White Cross Birth Mark

The world was stunned when they saw the rarest birthmark ever in this cow at a dairy farm in Sterling, Connecticut. Dubbed as the “holy cow”, young Moses was born in 2010 with a unique birthmark that looks like a white cross on its forehead.

9. Puppy with a Heart-Shaped Birth Mark

This cute puppy was born in Japan with a large, clear, love-heart-shaped pattern in his coat. The Chihuahua was born in May 2008 as one of a litter belonging to a breeder. Shop owner Emiko Sakurada said it was the first time a puppy with the marks had been born out of a thousand she had bred. She had no plans to sell the puppy, which has been named “Heart-kun.”
