Flappy Bird developer taking game off in the marketplace.
Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen, which is the most popular game on Apple App Store and Google’s Android Play Store, has announced recently that he is taking the game off in the marketplace.
Game developer Dong Nguyen wrote on his Twitter that he was going to take the game down because he was not prepared for Flappy Bird’s huge success and that he just can’t handle the game’s popularity anymore.
“I am sorry 'Flappy Bird' users, 22 hours from now, I will take 'Flappy Bird' down. I cannot take this anymore,” Nguyen wrote on Twitter.
“It is not anything related to legal issues. I just cannot keep it anymore,” Nguyen added.
Flappy Bird game has become one of the most downloaded mobile games on both Apple and Google's online stores. The Android version has been downloaded up to 50 million times, and engrossed more than half a million reviews.
Many people have been questioning Dong Nguyen on Twitter about his choice to take down Flappy Bird as only a day earlier he had been talking about developing the game for Microsoft's Windows phones.
Two friends of Dong Nguyen stated that Nintendo had sent him a warning letter. However, the Japanese game maker said it was not considering a court case.
“It sounds very much like a rumor, and if it is, we certainly can't comment on that,” Nintendo's media representative said.
One of Vietnam's leading game companies, VTC Online Senior Manager Duy Doan believes that Dong Nguyen’s decision to take down Flappy Bird game was wise.
“Dong is taking one step back to avoid legal risk because it's too difficult to deal with legal issues himself if it happens,” Duy Doan said.
Dong Nguyen said earlier that he was not looking for any investors and would not sell the Flappy Bird game to anyone. He will, however, continue to make games.
