A bizarre image of a fish with what appears to have legs has been posted online and has Netizens scratching their heads. The creepy-looking monster was discovered dead by the side of a pond in Colorado in the US.

The strange creature has the body of a large silver fish, but also has stumpy legs like a reptile. It was posted by Bobby Kent on Imgur, who asked, “My neighbor found this off a pond in Colorado, what is this?”

Web users say it appears to be evolution in action, referencing the first animals to emerge from the ocean onto the land.

However, one user pointed out it looks like an axolotl that has died and the corpse has become bloated.

The axolotl, also known as a “Mexican walking fish,” is actually an amphibian. They are native to Mexico, but are often kept as exotic pets. This species is carnivorous, consuming small prey such as worms, insects, and small fish in the wild.
