This guy tried to incubate some chicken eggs, but surprisingly ended up with no chicks, but with one duckling. As a result, he made it his duty to become the best duck single dad ever.
A Reddit user Spongi, whose name is Brian, named the amazing baby duckling “Peeps.” He tried to provide enough companionship for the animal and provided his beard as well for Peeps shelter.
He also kept an online blog of Peeps journey, which has since become an Internet hit. The new dad decided to try to keep the duckling company.
“Ducks are very social, raising a single duck is basically a death sentence, and they will die of loneliness. Peeps don’t have a mother’s wing to go under, so my beard had to do. I spent a couple weeks just every day just 24 hours with her, feeding her, watering her and letting her keep warm under my beard,” he said.
“I feel completely responsible for this little fella’s well being, so I’m really going out of my way to take good care of them. I have the ambient temperature set to about 72f during the day and 65f at night and like any first parent, it took a while to figure it out. She's a cool duck, she's interesting. She talks to me all the time and sticks her head out of the cage and goes 'peep peep peep',” he added.
Brian later observes that Peeps which has now grown too big to fit under his chin and prefers to perch on his shoulders to watch TV, will be able to spread its wings when it goes outside in the spring.
In addition, Peeps soon may have some company. According to Brian, he’s incubating three more duck eggs.
