Dr. Lisa-ann Gershwin of Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) government agency, said that researchers already known the species but not yet classified. She described that the giant jellyfish is a "truly magnificent animal."
The giant jellyfish is one of three new species of the Lion's Mane group. This amazing jellyfish look like a dinner plate with a mop hanging underneath.
"We’re actually seeing a lot of jellyfish blooming this year. It’s been a big year for gelatinous creatures of all sorts," Dr. Gershwin said.
"It’s new because its structural features are unlike other species, it just so happens that this one is huge like it’s the size of a Smart car," she added.
Dr. Gershwin and her associate wanted to conduct a long-term study to scrutinize the reason why jellyfish nowadays are huge. She also said that there are amazing bigger species about 3 meters in diameter and can be found in Arctic.
