At first glance, this Robert the doll may seem like a harmless children’s doll.
But looks can be deceiving because this is Robert, the most haunted doll in the world.
Robert the doll resembles an early 20th century American Naval Officer is said to be possessed by evil spirits and has a terrifying reputation.
Robert Eugene Otto or “Gene” is the owner of the doll given to him in 1906 by a Bahamian servant, who was skilled in black magic and voodoo. He decided to name the doll after himself and began carrying him everywhere. The servant is displeased with the Otto family and soon afterwards many strange and weird things began to occur in the Otto household.
Many neighbors claimed to see the doll move from window to window when the family were out. The Otto family also claimed to hear the doll giggle, seeing a change in the doll’s expression from day to day and caught glimpses of the doll running inside the house. Gene began to have nightmares and scream out in the night shouting “Robert did it!”
When Gene died in 1974, the doll was left in the attic until the house was bought again. The 10-year-old daughter of the new owners was quick to find Robert the doll in the attic.
It was not long before the girl also claimed that the doll tortured her and even attempted to attack her on multiple occasions. Even after more than 30 years later, she still claims that the doll was alive and wanted to kill her.
In 1994, Robert the doll joined in the collection of Key West Martello Museum where he now sits in a glass box holding a lion toy. On the wall behind him are apologetic letters addressed to him from people who took his photo without permission.
Employees in the museum also claims that bizarre activity increases during such times. Robert the doll served as an inspiration for the Chucky Doll in the Child’s Play movie franchise.
