Would you believe that there are pink dolphins? Yes, pink dolphins actually exist. I am not telling fairytale stories here.

Pink dolphins also called as boto, boutu or Amazon River dolphins because it resides in the Amazon River. These rare pink dolphins are considered to be the most intelligent dolphins compared to the other four species of freshwater dolphins. The size of their brain is 40% larger than that of humans.

Inea Geoffrensis is the scientific name of these friendly and rare creatures. They can grow up to 2.5 to 3 meters (8.25 ft to 9.75 ft) and weights up to 90 kilograms or 200 pounds. River dolphins are small compared to sea dolphins but they have long snouts that they needed when hunting their food. They also have more pointy teeth compared to sea dolphins. They love to eat crustaceans, catfish, small fresh water fish and even small turtles.

There is no exact verification why pink dolphins are pink. It is assumed that it could be an adaptation to the river life or caused by the presence of capillaries near the surface of the skin.

Other factors are the chemical contaminants in the water specifically iron, age of the animal and the temperature of the water. Pink dolphins get pinker when they are surprised or excited as blushing to humans.
