The largest coliseum on the planet is found in the Philippines and is being built in Bocaue, Bulacan.
It will be unveiled this coming July 2014 in time for the 100th anniversary of Iglesia Ni Cristo, possibly 50,000 people will attend the event.
Iglesia Ni Cristo is one of the largest religious group in the world that originated in the Philippines in 1914 under founder Felix Manalo with more than 27 million members.
With its 810,000 square feet (7.5 hectares) of land, it can hold up a dome spanning 390,000 square feet (3.6 hectares) and can seat 50,000 people. According to Iglesia Ni Cristo, the roof will contain 9,000 tons of steel and will span 520 feet or one and a half football fields. The entire structure will be 200 feet or around 15 stories high. The entire costs of the construction is staggering P9.4 Billion. San Jose Builders, contractors of the arena, were given 24 months to finish the job.
The structure of the arena is made to be “Quake-Proof” to be safe from natural disasters such as earthquake and typhoons. Andrew James, Structural Design Consultant, said that “Quake-Proofing” the arena means flexibility in every inch of the structure but also ensuring the safety of people especially in times of calamities or emergencies.
The arena will not only hold major church assembly but will also operate as a venue for concerts and multi-use sports event like boxing and basketball.
